Co-enzyme Q-10, also known as CoQ10, is a naturally occurring enzyme that is found in every cell in the body. Without CoQ10, NO cell in the body remains alive. The ramifications of interfering with the production of CoQ10 is insurmountable.
CoQ10’s most critical role is to protect and create energy within the cells of the heart, organs and skeletal muscles. The heart has the greatest requirement and highest concentrations of CoQ10 than any other tissue in the body.
Reduced levels of CoQ10 could be dangerous to the heart and many times a potential factor in future heart problems.
Many studies have shown that CoQIO is necessary for a healthy heart.
In fact, every muscle in the body needs CoQ10 to produce energy, and the heart muscle, having the greatest energy requirement, has the greatest concentration of this nutrient.
However, our natural production of CoQ10 peaks in our 20s and declines thereafter. With the main food sources of CoQ10 being organ meats, not usually a part of today's diets, we are prone to a deficiency, especially from middle age onward.
When purchasing/using Co-Q10, there are two forms - Ubiquinone and Ubiquinol. The research is mixed as to which is better or more absorbable.
Your body converts the ubiquinone form, to the active form, ubiquinol. However, ubiquinol becomes ubiquinone when it carries out its role in the body.
Simply stated, regardless of what form of CoQ10 you take as a supplement, the body is able to convert the consumed form to the other form as needed.
Granted, aging and some genetics mutations, reduces the above conversions.
So, to play it safe - we've used BOTH versions, Ubiquinone + Ubiquionol, to make sure it's effective and efficient!
Policosanol is a natural supplement derived from sugar cane. The main ingredient is, Octacosanol which is an alcohol found in the waxy film that plants have over their leaves and fruit.
Policosanol has been shown to help normalize cholesterol without any major or serious side effects, such as liver dysfunction and muscle atrophy - which are reported with other drugs (Mas et al. 1999).
Policosanol can help support lower levels of harmful LDL-cholesterol and help raise protective HDL-cholesterol, while there was no change or improvement in other treatment groups. 5
Garlic is known throughout the world as an amazing flavor enhancer in cooking and eating. However, it also boasts multiple health benefits for the body.
Unfortunately, there is one "negative" with garlic - it can cause you to smell! Both your breath and sweat glands.
This is why we decided to use Deodorized (non-smelling) garlic, with the highest 5% alliin extract (std. to 2,500 ppm allicin potential).
Garlic extracts many benefits include supporting the body’s response to oxidative stress, enhancing cellular detoxification and supporting immune response. It also:
Guggul has been used for over 3,000 years. It’s utilized for:
It works by reducing bile acid, which can help support healthy cholesterol profile within a normal range.
Additionally, it works by stimulating thyroid production to normal levels. Your body needs thyroid hormones to make cholesterol and to get rid of the cholesterol it doesn’t need.
When thyroid hormone levels are low (aging, stress, low-carb diets, etc.), your body doesn’t break down and remove LDL cholesterol as efficiently as usual. LDL cholesterol can then build up in your blood.
Pantethine, a special form of vitamin B5 (pantothenic acid), has been shown to help promote healthy cholesterol and HDL levels within normal ranges.
What's interesting is that the more common pantothenic acid found in most supplements (NOT the Pantethine version) does nothing for cholesterol or triglyceride levels. 13
Artichoke leaf extract contains polyphenolic compounds that have been clinically studied to help support and maintain optimal HDL/LDL ratios within normal, healthy range.9,14,15
Plant sterols and plant stanols are collectively known as phytosterols. Plant sterols are plant compounds with chemical structures similar to that of cholesterol. Especially high sterol levels are found in rice bran, wheat germ, corn oils, and soybeans.
Interestingly, phytosterols so closely resemble cholesterol that they can actually block food-based cholesterol from being absorbed into the bloodstream.19 The result is that both phytosterols and dietary cholesterol end up excreted in waste matter.
Because of their ability to block dietary cholesterol absorption, phytosterols can help promote optimal cholesterol levels within a healthy, normal range.20
Did you know that most of the body's supply of cholesterol (approximately 80%) is made in the liver?
This process is rigorously controlled by biochemical feedback mechanisms. The amount of cholesterol produced by the liver is controlled by the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase16.
As you can see, the liver is the "power house" in the body for many functions, especially cholesterol.
Many people have unhealthy livers to do lack of hydration because they don't drink enough water, the use of too many prescription drugs (or any drug for that matter), alcohol consumption and a poor diet.
So, if your liver is weak and tired from always trying to clean out and filter all the toxins you are putting in your body every day, it won't have enough energy to regulate your cholesterol levels and therefore, cholesterol rises.
We've added THREE very potent liver detoxers, to help strengthen your liver and boost your immune system - Milk Thistle (80% Extract) 21, NAC (N-Acetyl L-Cysteine) 22, Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA) 23 and Turmeric (95% curcuminoids Extract) 24.
A stronger livers, means your body can more easily and efficiently get rid of excess cholesterol, resulting in a healthy, normal, youthful range.
Researchers now believe that testing homocysteine levels is over 47% more accurate at predicting future heart problems, than checking cholesterol alone 25.
So, just because you have better cholesterol levels (diet, exercise, supplements, drugs, etc.), does NOT mean you're "safe" when it comes to heart or brain problems and clots.
Make sure you ALSO check your Homocysteine levels and keep them fairly low, in the range of 5-15 micromoles per liter of blood (best if it's less than 10).
About 50% of American adults have elevated blood cholesterol levels, a key risk factor for heart disease according to the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute. But are you aware that half of all heart attacks happen to people with normal blood cholesterol levels?
That's because your blood cholesterol provides your total cholesterol, including high-density Lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density Lipoprotein (LDL) but not some other important numbers, like your homocysteine level and C reactive protein.
Homocysteine, an amino acid in the blood, is associated with an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes. 27
Some medical experts predict that homocysteine levels will prove to be as important as cholesterol in predicting heart health. In fact, they expect measuring homocysteine levels will become a part of regular cardiac risk assessments.
Studies have shown that high levels of homocysteine are caused by a lack of nutrients in the diet, particularly the B group of vitamins. Without these essential vitamins your body is unable to produce the enzymes necessary to remove homocysteine efficiently from your blood.
Homocysteine will cause damage to your arteries when present in high concentrations - hence the link between homocysteine and heart problems.
A lack of B Vitamins leads to elevated homocysteine levels, which is why high homocysteine and vegetarian diets are directly related. 26 Fortunately the situation is easily treatable.
In the late 60's Dr. Kilmer McCully determined through extensive research that taking adequate amounts of Folic acid (vitamin B9), along with vitamins B6 and B12 your levels of homocysteine will normalize.
Numerous studies since have proven Dr. McCully's work to be 100% accurate and the correct total daily dosage for these B vitamins should be around:
Again, these are TOTAL daily dosages and this is the EXACT ratio we've used in CholesLo™. With the minimum of 2 pills daily, to a maximum of 6 pills - you will fall in the EXACT proven range to effectively reduce Homocysteine Levels within normal, healthy ranges!
